4 Affordable Florida Staycation Ideas
June 12, 2017
We love to daydream about the trips we want to take… and then reality sets in! Between taking time off of work and the expense involved, big budget vacations may not always be possible.
But there’s good news, friends! We live in FLORIDA. We’re the lucky few that get to live where most of the world comes to vacation.
So even if you can’t jet away this year, there are plenty of local places to enjoy right in your own backyard. Here are some ideas to help you plan an awesome Florida staycation.
Bring on the Beach Days
Let’s start with the obvious, shall we? Our beaches are some of the best in the world. No matter where in the state you live, there’s a beach within a drivable distance.
Beach days are perfect for staycations. They’re easy to plan and very affordable. No need to spend a ton of money when you have sun, sand and waves to enjoy.
There are plenty of affordable hotels and rental properties if you want to stay a few nights. Consider going in with friends to keep costs down. Or you can simply go for day trips and go back home after.
All of the Florida beaches are amazing, but here are a few to check out:
- Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota for soft sand and lovely views
- St. Augustine Beach in St. Augustine for historical importance
- Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys for natural beauty
- South Beach in Miami for parties and people-watching
- Barefoot Beach Preserve County Park in Collier County for family friendly fun
Go Camping
For a real Florida experience, camping is a rewarding staycation option. It will let you take time to truly appreciate the natural beauty all around us.
Campsites are often inexpensive, so it’s a savvy way to have a wonderful time while saving money. If you enjoy camping, investing in a decent tent and some basic equipment can provide you with years of vacation savings.
Don’t worry if you’re not the roughing it type. Plenty of campgrounds offer cabins or other lodging options that allow you to enjoy a nice sunset and still sleep in bed at the end of the day.
Plus, did we mention s’mores? Be honest, camping is totally worth it just for the s’mores!
There are campgrounds all over the state, including:
- Fort De Soto Park Campground in Tierra Verde
- Manatee Springs State Park in Chiefland
- Collier-Seminole State Park in Naples
- Hillsborough River State Park in Thonotosassa
- Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna
Experience Events of All Kinds
Another bonus that comes with living in such a thriving state is that there is always something fun to do. When planning your staycation, embrace as many local events as you can handle.
It seems there is an event for every interest, no matter how obscure. From crafts and movies to fitness and foodie fun, there is no limit to the amount of events that take place on any given day in Florida. There are family-friendly and pet-friendly options too.
Here’s an idea to take your staycation to the next level. Gather your family or friends, whoever you’ll spend your vacation time with, and let each person choose an event for the group for different days. You’ll get to try new things and have a little adventure with your favorite people!
Really Relax
During your busy life, relaxation often takes a back seat to your to-do list. During your staycation, make relaxation your top priority.
Read that book you’ve wanted to read. Pamper yourself. Take an afternoon nap in a hammock. Relaxation means different things to different people so find your style and let yourself unwind.
If you have kids at home with you, try to organize a babysitting exchange with close friends or family where you watch the kids one day and then swap the next day. This gives everyone the chance to relax.
Go on; take a much-needed break. You deserve it!
