Oakland mobster Salvador Castro (
David Rocha), newly released from prison, wastes no time in getting back into the Bay Area drug-running game. He encounters new, ruthless competition from San Francisco thug Darryl (
Ryan Mac) and a pair of inept detectives, compelling Salvador and his crew to haul out the big guns.

This the best effort yet by the young
Quiroz brothers,
Ed and
Jose, who finance their films with profits from previous productions and their
hip-hop label,
DarkRoom. While the acting is more professional and the production looks and sounds better than usual, it doesn't set any new standards, even for the woeful
urban Latino genre. A little imagination would help. The brothers are going to have to come up with a more dynamic way to move the story along other than having menacing thugs shout profanities in living room settings before departing for the next gun fight. Emotional involvement and a plot twist would be nice too. Otherwise, this is a Latino
urban crime-
actioner with plenty of remorse-free gunplay and few surprises.
Drug Lordz will appease genre regulars until the major studios' more polished
urban offerings hit the shelves.
