Considering the relatively strong presentation of
Daria: Is It Fall Yet? on DVD, this release on disc of the second
Daria "movie" (and series finale),
Daria: Is It College Yet?, is a bit of a disappointment.
Daria: Is It College Yet? has been transferred to DVD in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Surround, and like
Daria: Is It Fall Yet?, this material has never looked or sounded so good, either on VHS or in broadcast; the images are sharp, the colors vivid, and the audio crisp and resonant. However, the disc includes no subtitles or closed captioning, and while two bonus regular-length episodes of
Daria are included ("
Lucky Strike" and one of the finest installments in the series, "
Boxing Daria"), the pop songs used to score the episodes in their original broadcast have been removed, leaving an uncomfortable silence at times. And while the gallery of character biographies and early design sketches is a nice touch, more production art will be welcome.
Daria: Is It College Yet? is still well worth a look for fans of the series, but one senses the definitive presentation of
Daria on DVD has yet to arrive.
